The Fire Chief doesn’t seem thrilled about having a blood sample drawn in this Joe Young image from the 1940s. The location is the old fire station on Second Street.
This space was recently remodeled and is serving as the Hood River City administrative offices. You are looking to the NE corner, which now houses the Planning Department.
The wall in the background holds many photographs and the departments moose mascot. Many of the photos on the wall are still in the HRFD archives. I’m not sure what happened to the moose.

I’m thinking the felllow in the patterned jacket last name is Ed Wells and was for many years the fire engine staff driver…..I can see him now driving up the street picking up volunteer fire fighters on the way to a fire alarm…..
And why were they drawing blood…..a bit before our "war on drugs"….
So many questions…….why the moose for the HRFD mascot? I don’t think there were a lot of moose in HRV

I think some of those photos on the back wall are now in the new fire station.

If there is a Wells in this photo it is Dr. Stan Wells in front of Royce Rogers who is wearing the checked shirt. Ed Wells was his older son and probably born in 1945 as he was in my brother’s class.

Scott Parker is the gentleman on the left side wearing the HRFD shirt. Scott was a long time volunteer later becoming an Engineer. He served 33 yrs. with the Department before retiring.
