Historic Hood River
“Davidson Mill,” 1904
8-31-2015

Notes
This shot from the DeWitt family album is titled “Davidson Mill.” I’m not sure if this is the Davidson box factory or a fruit packing plant. In either case, it probably burned in the 1904 fire.
Harry DeWitt is flanked by Willa? Olinger, Pansy DeWitt, Marjorie, Vera Jackson and Laura Cramer.

Nice attire for a factory or mill building. I assume Harry DeWitt was associated with ownership or management to want a formal photo taken at this location..

If I didn’t know better, I would think Harry DeWitt looked like a car salesman.
Vera Jackson and Barton Davidson were married November of 1904.

I have studied this photo for a long time and can’t decide whether it is a box factory or packing house. I don’t see anything that really says it is a packing house. No devices that were used in processing the fruit. But then on the flip side I don’t really see anything either to indicate the production of boxes, such a shook, etc.
Possibly this was when it was in the final stages of construction and the "innards" weren’t in place yet.
