What is the sign up over the garage say. I think it says Fire Chief. Was that not a brand of tires?
Those old gas pumps always fascinated me, to watch the gas go down and into the car.

Gladys- Fire Chief was the brand name of Texaco's gasoline.

So this is obviously way before Peggy's Hen Hut back in the late 70's early 80's, but is that the same building that they used for the restaurant? I remember it being very small like this.

If memory serves me right, I think my Dad stopped here or very near here to buy soft ice cream and Dad's root beer.

Pumped gas up into this type pump as a kid, grandfather would drain it into cars as ordered. At the end of the day the gas was drained back down into the tanks.

In the 1950s there was a little walk up ice cream shop just to the right of this picture. They had the best hot dogs. Still fix mine the way they did but still don't taste quite the same.

If I recall correctly, Norma, that ice cream shop was called the Dairy Queen.

Clayton Curtis and Dick Edstrom had the gas station for a few years. The owner of the Ice Cream Shop was a man named Allers and his son was Don Walker of the valley,

Allers was Don Walker's step father. Don was the manager of the Hood River Electric Coop in Odell for many years.

The ice cream place was called The Dairy Desert. My grandmother owned the house next to it in the 50s..

In the '50s it sold Shell gasoline and was run by Oscar Lindgren, Al Krieg's grandfather. We used to work on our motorcycles in that lube
room where the car is shown.
