This photo is from one of the Plog sister’s albums (Edna I believe)”. It is captioned “At the Snow Shoe Cabin.” Which cabin would that be? The image is circa 1927.
This is the Snowshoe Cabin just below Cloud Cap Inn on the other side of the joint turn around and parking area. I think they must have just taken a drive up there as it was and in a private organization out of Portland and no doubt would have been closed.
Still in 1927 it would have been quite a trip !!!! The two ladies are looking off somewhat towards the Lost Lake area.

Very interesting photo of a 1927 Chevrolet Imperial Landau 4 door sedan.
WAAAM has this exact same model on display, donated by a local HR family whose name escapes me at the moment and could be the same car. It was a “barn find” vehicle and when recovered by the WAAAM Car Guys volunteers, they were very careful not to change or disturb its condition while moving it from the barn to Museum 3 at WAAAM.

Additional information on the '27 Chevy is in 1949 was owned by H.E. Levern in Portland. In 1955 Russ Smith bought the car for $85 after Russ was discharged from the Army. The car sat in Russ and Lois Smith's barn for 59 years until 2014, when they placed the car on display at WAAAM.
It's a great car to see when you visit WAAAM…..still has some of the mummified mice on it!

I tried to connect H. Lavern to the snow shoe club, but, didn’t come up with anything. I did find this little bit of history.
“1904 Portlanders form the Snowshoe Club: they would use snowshoes to reach their cabin at Cloud Cap and then ski down on 20 foot skis imported from Norway (sometimes referred to as Norwegians, or skis spelled skees, skeys, shees).
