This postcard of Astoria was postmarked in 1919, though I suspect the image is a few years older. S. Danziger & Co., which is on the left side of the image, went bankrupt in 1912. The marquee at the theater is slightly too blurred for me to read the movie titles to get a definitive date.
I can’t find any of these buildings in a modern Google map view. Most of the wood frame buildings are probably long gone, but perhaps someone from Astoria will recognize some of the masonry buildings to give us a location.

It appears that they had a good working fire department in order from the fire hydrants on the corners of the street.
People no doubt were becoming weight conscious, as that certainly looks like a big scale there under the Astoria Dental Parlors sign.
Can’t decide whether there was Olympia beer in those days or whether it was just the name of the saloon.
Looking down the street just makes me want to go further down and see what there was.

Not an expert on Astoria, but first building on left is familiar and looks like the first building on Commercial St. where that street becomes one way going east. My little laptop isn’t very clear, but going to Astoria symphony orchestra concert on Sat. afternoon and country and western concert Sat. night at the old Liberty Theater. The theater has been completely refurbished and would be about halfway down the street on the right side. Can you spot it?.

I was going to say that Buzz will have to take a trip across the big river, but I see he already has plans to do that.
Those tracks down the middle of the street have me curious.

Downtown Astoria burned twice, 1883 and again in 1922. Commercial and other streets built mostly on piling were destroyed in 1922 and the single streetcar line was not rebuilt.

Just read where Liberty theater was built in 1925. So not in this picture.

Yes, this is definitely before the 1922 fire. I guess that’s why I can’t find any landmarks.
