Here’s another of the series of glass lantern slides we recently uncovered. They were shown in the 1920s in a local movie theater while the audience was waiting for the show. They offer a charming view into 1920s fashion and advertising art.
The original company to manufacture Dr. Denton’s opened shop in 1865.

First question how flame retardant was this product? Doubtful!!!!!
There was no Dr. Denton. A man by the name of Whitley Denton, an employee of the company based in Centerville, Michigan came up with the original design for this sleeper. Thus the name Denton, but to make the market more intriguing they put the Dr. in front of Denton, to give the impression that a doctor had approved of this garment. Naturally this would appeal to mothers concerned about their childrens sleepers.

Cute, yes the original footsie. My first thought, as Charlott mentioned, this garment was well before they treated with ‘flame retardant’. Which is definitely more ‘healthful’ in my opinion….

How many of you remember the rubber buttons and the enclosed foot covers as well as the thick cotten material. Almost a light weight sleeping bag. Great product ! !

I remember those rubber buttons on our sleepers. They were flexible so they could be wrung in the wringer. My mother had several of them in her button- box. She would let us play with the buttons occasionally. "Sorting things" was supposed to help with a child’s mental development, according to child-rearing authors of the time. There was one such, named Piaget, who coined the phrase "Play is a child’s work."
