GIANT FESTIVAL PLANNED FOR JULY 4
In view of the fact that the Forest Service has now definitely announced that the official opening of the Loop Highway will be on July 4th, the Chamber of Commerce, after discussing the matter with the fire brigade and the K.P. Band, has decided to combine efforts and include the Loop Highway and Bridge celebration in the general festivities of the Glorious Fourth.
As far as the plans have gone for the Highway ceremony, it has been agreed that the Hood River Guides will drive over the Highway to Hood River Meadows, where they will await a big delegation of Portland and other visitors. The entire party will then return to Hood River and proceed to Koberg’s Beach, where the inaugural ceremony both for the Loop Highway and Bridge will be carried out.
According to the plans of the K.P. Band and the Fire Brigade, there will be both field and water sports, with a baseball game in the afternoon and fireworks and dancing in the evening. Efforts are to be made to secure Rev. Billy Sunday as the leading speaker of the day, though at this time it is doubtful whether he will be available. The entire day will be given over to the celebration, which will be big enough to include visitors not only from the mid-Columbia, but from the larger centers, to be present.
The Chamber of Commerce has undertaken to look after the publicity for the big event, and an extensive advertising campaign will be undertaken to make the day the big success it deserves to be.

The vegetation appears to be fairly well "leafed" out. Not much sunshine to produce shadows. The crowd seems protected against the elements.
