Fun Friday returns!
There was a day when people wore their finest clothing for an outing. These woman posed at the ferry landing where they were headed for an excursion over to the Washington side of the river.
In this era Hood River had at least one millinery shop on Oak Street, and the Paris Fair also offered an extensive selection of women’s hats.
Happy New Year to all! In our first year Historic Hood River shared 202 images with you, resulting in over 160,000 visitor page hits and over 1200 comments. With thousands of photos to choose from, next year should be a great one at HHR.

In manyh instances many women created their own hats. That was one of the few businesses, along with teaching school that women seemed to be involved in. There were places that one could send for componants to create your own millinery delights.
I take it we have no idea who these "adventurers" might be. I don’t recognize any of them.
Apparently someone couldn’t get a baby sitter…
Noticed the lady with the elbow length gloves. No true "lady" would be caught out in public without them. When I was a teen ager, gloves and hats were still in fashion, especiall if you were going to church or into Portland.

The lady sitting down on the right looks familiar. I think we have seen her in another photo.
Those hats would not have fared so well in the rain we are experiencing today. Nor the wind.
