The good folks of Hood River purchased this airplane for the war effort through the bond drive in 1944. It’s a good reminder to visit the annual WAAAM Fly-In this weekend.

I wonder if this might have been the bond drive that Jack Dempsey, the boxer was in Hood River for. I bought my bond from him. My Dad said he shook my little hand and did it look little in his big boxing one.

Any follow up history of this plane?
Sat is annual fly in at AAAM and military history display at the bomber military museum in Milwaukie, although that bomber is gone to Salem for restoration ~.

I would also ask if there is any follow up history of that plane? Did it survive the war? Did the crew survive?

Internet searches come up with the strangest things! I searched for "Spirit of Hood River" and found a short blurb in the March 30, 1913 Springfield (MA) Union page 32 that has nothing to do with the bomber photo above:
"Spirit of Hood River
Hood River Spirit is the term often applied to explain the wonderful success of the greatest apple district in the United States. Intelligent cooperation is the golden Hood River word. There, for apples only, they talk, think, dream, and work together."

Sorry, but I have no further information on the "Spirit of Hood River" either.

There was a small settlement called Liberty Bond, in Klickitat County, between the communities of Glenwood and Klickitat. It was named for the war bonds sold during WWI. There is nothing there now.
