This image has a period note describing it as “the tunnel between Hood River and Portland on the banks of the Columbia.”
There’s also a nice fishwheel. It looks like the river is at spring flood levels.

Is that the original rail tunnel near Corbett? You can (maybe) see Reed Island Park in the distance and the river channel is called ‘Tunnel Point’ at this location.

Just west of Rooster Rock.
So….is I-84 built on landfill in this area?

This abandoned tunnel #1 was replaced about 1910 by the present tunnel next to and south of it. It can still be entered from the east end for about 300′, it is then cut off by I-84. It can be seen from the westbound freeway when foliage is down, but to enter involves trespassing on RR property for about 100′..

My question is how did they get to the fish wheel? Either there was some sort of trail from the side not showing or it was all done by boat. This is not a a scowl fish wheel, meaning it could be moved to another location.

Charlott, it looks to me like the fish wheel is just moored there temporarily. Perhaps because of high water?
