It looks as if his buildings might have been in the grove of trees to the right, somewhat in the area of where that house/cabin is now. That grove would have been some protection from the east wind

I wonder what it looked like in the 1894 flood. I still can’t imagine there being enough grass to put up hay for a rabbit, much less a cow.

L.E. I wonder if when the weather was half way decent in the winter he might not just let that cow roam and eat grass that was growing. That would reduce the amount of grass hay he would have to stock pile. Never had to worry about the cow going through the fence…
