Pacific Power and Light Company purchased Mr. Tucker’s electrical generation plant on the Hood River by Tucker Bridge sometime in the 1920s. Here we see a crew cleaning snow off the roof. It’s hard to imagine cruising around in the snow in that old truck.

Yuk! I don’t like putting chains on in the snow and I don’t like shoveling off roofs in the snow.
Is this on the south side of the river, below the Tucker home?

Yes, I am pretty sure it is on the south side of the river, just below where the house is. My guess is that this is taken from right about where Apple Valley store is now.

The approaches can still be seen down to this older steel through truss bridge just upstream from the present crossing. I believe this would put the building where the existing bridge is.

LE, I agree putting on chains in the snow is no fun, but worse is putting them on in the mud. This experience was again surpassed when it was time to take them OFF in the mud last month.

Cool photo! You can see the footings for that building and the bridge still today.
Always wondered what that building looked like.
The current bridge would appear just to the right of that old bridge I think.

I don’t remember chaining up….sawdust snow tires went on in late fall, came off early spring….always drove off the top half of the tank per Dad’s instructions. Snow driving was fun….Portland’s ice, different story. "Fond" memory of ending up on Ed Vannet’s lawn…..tight corner, packed snow, borrowed WW II era ]eep……
