This guy climbed all the way up Mt. Hood, asked Alva Day to take a picture to show the folks back home, and just as the shutter is released a Crag Rat photobombed him. This was the 1936 Legion climb.

Actually, the color of his jacket and the zinc oxide on his lips shows this is probably a well known local with a sense of humor. But the gentleman with nice leather gloves, a fedora, and a new looking jacket is getting his "proof that I climbed Mt, Hood" picture usurped. Bet he trimmed the picture when he took it home.

My first thought is that he is a member of the Oak Grove Annala family, possibly Gene Annala. Let’s all work on this one.

My thought was one of the Annalas as well- but as I knew them when they were much older, hard to guess which one…first thought was Sulo….

Hmmm- I am thinking maybe Eino Annala? He sure had the sense of humor to pull that face. And I think it has to be a first generation rat- others would be too young to be that old in ’36

Yes, it could very well be Eino, as he would have been a member during that time. My mother always told the story of the somewhat aborted Jefferson trip – Crag Rat Outing.. Rain….rain…rain……Mule train with supplies and tents never made it. No food, miserable night. Eino went out and found some old animals bones, put them in a pot of water and cooked them over the camp fire…….Did lighten up a "drippy" mood.
