Notes
Here’s a fine view of the Hood River train depot in 1912. This depot was constructed in 1911. You can read all about it in the September 21, 1911 Glacier. Too bad it no longer has the “drinking fountains, where the traveller drinks from a flow of water bubbling from a basin as though from a spring.”
That’s Florence Reed on the platform. We previously saw her at her home on Oak Street.

What a clear photo. You can see the individual leaves on the Cottonwood trees.
If you enlarge the photo, you can see some buildings at the top of Burdoin Mtn, above White Salmon.
I think the Burdoin home was only part way up the mountain, but there was a sawmill at the top with a flume running down to the Columbia.
Perhaps someone from White Salmon has some information about it.
Anyway…..back to the HR Train Station. Neat photo Arthur, and remarkably clear.

Anyone ever see a picture of those drinking fountains? Wondering if they were like the Benson Bubblers in Portland?

Every time you show a photo of old trains in Hood River reminds me of the story my grandmother told of riding the train from Arkansas to Hood River in 1906.
