I assume that is Io, Alva’s wife with her father. She is wearing pants!!!! Do you think that is Alva with the pipe? Great photo. The classic white canvas tent, array of guns leaning against the tree, axe stuck in the tree

Used to leave for the Blue Mountains for elk hunting immediately after last football game of the season. Drove all night and were hunting the next morning. Generally snow on the ground. Didn’t ask permission from the school to be gone for a week. Parents wrote a note to school, told them we were with our dads, and approx. when we would be back.
longshot
My family had an internal umbrella tent that looked just like the one shown in this photo. Easiest tent to set up ever, couldn’t be beat when setting it up in the rain. It be erected in just a couple of minutes by two experienced people.

As a kid growing up at the west end of The Gorge, I knew about Larch Mtn, but I didn’t know what a Larch tree was. I learned about them when we went elk hunting and camping in The Blues. My mom explained to me what the yellow needled trees were the grew on the high hillsides. I think I got permission from school to go elk hunting and had to take some homework with me.
