Historic Hood River
Golden North Hotel

Notes
I always enjoy seeing the architecture of nice hotels like this one, the Golden North Hotel in Skagway, Alaska. This image is from Olga Plog’s album of her Alaska cruise in 1925. We know she traveled on he S.S. Admiral Rogers, and they made port in Skagway in early August.
I’m especially happy to see this building still exists. You can read a wonderful history of it, complete with the stories you would expect from Gold Rush days in Alaska, here. You can see two other Olga Plog images of Skagway here.

I’ve been in that building a couple of times. My interest was in the S.S. Admiral Rogers and it’s life. Found a few things on eBay: great early post card pictures in front of glaciers. The hotel has out lasted the steamship and the glaciers!!
