Notes
This postcard shows a parade float rounding the corner from Cascade onto First. We haven’t seem this perspective before. That’s the Mt. Hood Hotel to the left, and the Gerdes House hotel across the street. The signboard down the block advertises fruit lands in Hood River and Mosier.
I hope the toddler has a seatbelt.
Anyone have a guess what “UBH” stands for?

They look like they are leaning into the corner. Must have been a fast moving parade.
There is something in the back of my mind about early fund raising for a children’s home. I wonder if that is UBH.

as one who took a tumble out of a slow moving car back in my early childhood, I continue to applaud seat belts. twas near home on Prospect and I can still remember the pebbles imbedded in my palms………

The UBH thing appears to be a pennant. Maybe there is an R on the end of the UBH that is hid behind the headlight. United Bank of Hood River. Almost as lame as Arlen’s idea.

It’s definitely a pennant, but there’s no room for an "R" on it.
The best I could find in Google is "Urban Beer Hikes", with the motto "Walk- sit- think- drink".

careful, the WCTU will smack you down Arthur……somehow I doubt that it stands for Urban Beer Hikes but I like it better than any of my lame ideas…..and I really support their motto. In fact, a cool Full Sail amber awaits me in the frig……drink Oregon first….Arlen

To me, this looks a little earlier than July. Any chance this could be celebration of the opening of the Columbia River Highway, which I think took place in June?

"In 1899, Mr. & Mrs. Gerdes purchaced the Delk property on 2nd & Cascade where the Gerdes Hotel still stands. In 1906 Mr. Gerdes built an addition to the original building and began the operation of the rooming house which he continued until his death in 1934, at the age of 84. Mrs. Gerdes passed away in 1920 at the age of 54."

The United Brethren Church was a popular one in HR during this era, but I wonder about the lack of an "R" on the pennant.
