Time to plan your summer camping trip. That’s Io Day on the left, camping at Lost Lake in August 1936.
I’ve always thought the Days brought too much gear for their annual Lost Lake trip, but a friend tells me her grandparents used to travel to Lost Lake from Mosier every summer with their dairy cow. Apparently that was easier than getting someone to milk her while they were away. I’m not sure where she would have grazed, but I’ll bet the fresh milk was welcome.

Seems like those three ladies are dressed rather fancy for camping at Lost Lake.
But, this was probably before it was acceptable for women to wear pants, even camping. I was in high school in the 1960’s and had to wear dresses to school.
What is that T looking thing stuck in the tree trunk?

Our grandfather John H. as County Judge always resisted paving the Lost Lake road to inhibit the Portlanders from invading the Lake.
