Here’s another view of Spanish American War troops marching down Oak Street. This image gives an angle I haven’t seen before. We’re looking at the back of the Mt. Hood Hotel, which faced the train station in this era, as well as “Columbia Hall” on Oak between First and Second streets.

Have we seen the Columbia Hall before? I don’t remember that name.
Was there a training camp in Hood River or was HR a gathering place for soldiers because of the railroad? Between this photo and #717 showing the marching troops, there seem to be a lot more soldiers than what would come from the HR area.

Off to another noble war with God fighting on our side. Where young men die, and old men get wealthier. This country has fought in a few "good" wars, but not many.

I haven’t seen any other pictures of Columbia Hall. I think this was a National Guard activation, and Hood River was a gathering point for Guard members from the region. We have pictures of their encampment, as well as them parading in Portland, and photos of the ship which took them to the Philippines.
