Allen’s Cash Store was located at the northeast corner of Summit Road and Odell Highway, adjacent to the grade school (now
used as storage by the school district) and across from the Odd Fellows Hall. Ethan Allen (in this photograph, circa 1930) sold candy and school
supplies, making it a popular destination for Odell kids.

The distinction "Cash Store" was an important one in the early 20th century. Most rural stores operated on a credit basis with a significant markup and carrying fee, so the moniker "cash store" was intended to convey the concept of "low margin=> low prices".
