This is another one of the bridges from around the country that the designer of the Hood River White Salmon Bridge was visiting in the 1940s for inspiration. We’re not sure what project he was working on, but you can’t go wrong seeking inspiration from the Navajo Bridge in Arizona and the Bixby Bridge on the Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur.
The Wikipedia post for this bridge is full of interesting facts, from details of its seismic retrofit to the traffic and overuse of “the No. 1 “Instagram-Worthy Destination for 2019 Travels”. Elbert Chandler didn’t have to deal with traffic when he visited in the 1940s.

Beautiful bridge. I googled how many had died building this bridge and it said “none”.
Pretty amazing.
Thanks for the wikipedia post. Interesting. From this view I would not have guessed there was a sawmill farther up the creek.
