I suspect this image is from one of the “pet parades” of the 1930s. We have the names of the man standing (left to right):

Unfortunately we don’t know the names of the boys holding the Rotary sign. They don’t look particularly happy to be there, so I’m going to guess dad is standing right behind them.

I wonder if the men chose their own outfits or if they each represent something?

This photo was good timing. Monday night is Rotary Ski Night at Mt. Hood Meadows.

Rod McRae passed away in 1943 at the age of 55. He was District manager for Pacific Power and Light which included Klickitat County. He served overseas in WWI.
In 1933 Perigo & Sons was the oldest grocery store in HR. Bob Perigo was HR mayor. In fact, he may have been the mayor when the White Salmon, Hood River bridge was dedicated.

Could this could be the annual Crazy Day Parade downtown merchants held in the spring? As a kid it was always a highlight to go and watch.

Ofcourse Ed Lage was the son of Hans Lage, early Pine Grove pioneer.

My grandfather, A.W. Peters, married Ed McRae’s widow, Maude a few years later. "Abby" , as we called him, was on the board for PP&L.

John Smithson was president of the Oregon-Washington telephone company. He retired in 1930 and moved to Seattle.
Hal Bird Nesbit is in photo #228 grading fruit and the Pet Parade. He was an auto tire repairman for H.R. Fields and invented a Shoe Polishing Rack.

My great grandfather is John Smithson. He died before I was born. I heard very nice things of him while I grew up. His wife (Millie) also died before I was born. My grandmother Jane Smithson(Irwin) grew up there and married Joeseph Irwin. My grandfather Joeseph died in 1986. He was from around the area. My Grannie Jane died in 2008. I miss them!!!
