   Thank you so much Nancy for the link above- The ample pictures show the sparseness of tree covering in the general area at that time period and the early periods of skiing on Mt Hood’s north side. ( action shots ) I also appreciated seeing the newspaper clipping of the cars parked near/below the Mt Hood Tavern during winter- it appears the picture itself may have been taken from the upper viewing deck at the tavern looking NE towards what is now the general location of the present day Crooked Tree Tavern. My great grand parents ran the Homestead Inn prior to opening up the Mt Hood Tavern.
   " Upon the return of Mr and Mrs McMullin to Hood River in about 1926/28 they went up to the base of Mt Hood and ran the Homestead Inn which at the time was owned by J.O. Hannum."

   You’re welcome, Steve! I’m so thankful my great-grandmother labeled all (or almost all) of the photos in her album. Yes, I was wondering why so many of the trees around the Homestead seemed to be dead. Maybe some disease?

   Louis Lafferty (my great-uncle) and Clint (probably Clint Wood, who was a partner of Louis’s dad Ira Ulysses "Lyss" Lafferty in the Lafferty & Wood store in Odell) didn’t look like champion skiers, but they must have had fun!

   The clippings were at the back of Great-Grandma Lafferty’s album. She was a keeper of history, for which I’m ever grateful. I’m only mad that her diaries, which I found out she had kept, were lost or, more likely, thrown away by my grandmother. I can only imagine what a treasure they would have been!

   Who is the gentleman in the photo?
   My great grandfather is J.O. Hannum.
   I do not have a photo of him. Would love to see any other photos of the Homestead Inn or learn about any stories from that era.
