The new utility pole may be the subject of the picture, but I think the view of the Fashion Livery and Dray is more interesting. This seems to be before they shifted most of their business from horses to cars, though the “Zerolene” sign indicates at least some of their business was automotive. I’m dating it to the late teens. Note the shingle for M.E. Welch, Veterinary Surgeon, as well as the “Ladies Restroom.” The “Livery” sign is lighted.

Good photo of all the trees out there beyond the railroad bridge. Would be interesting to know what type of auto they had for hire…Wonder if you actually rented them or it was like the original taxi service in H. R. as not a whole lot of people would have auto driving skills. I can just visualize these men in an auto of the day for the first time. Nice to have the vet right near to the horses…….We have seen so many photos of this building, it would be interesting to be able to see what it ac tually looked like inside.

Can’t tell…is the hillside in the background barren until the top?

nels, that’s the hillside behind Skyline Hospital. It still looks very much like this, with bald patches in the same spots.
