I’m not sure how they handled fire dispatch in the 1940s, but presumably a call would come in on one of those phones and an announcement would go out through that microphone.

The man on the right of the photo looks so familiar, but I can’t put a name on him. Surely someone will know. Wonder what they are watching, as if this is the 40’s it is before t.v.

Finished scanning the Joe Young negatives today. There were 417 total negatives, a little more than I had originally estimated. Now the fun part begins, cataloging and indexing.

Yes, the man on the right is Ray Calmettes. His family owned the Heights Flower Shop for many years.

Would "Joe Young" be by any chance Joseph Bayard Young, son of Wallie & Bertha, husband of Dorothea? If so, he’s my first cousin twice removed (my grandmother’s first cousin). This is a wonderful photo site, and I can’t wait to explore it further! I’m currently scanning my great-grandmother’s photo album (the Laffertys lived in Hood River and Odell).
