Here’s the ferry landing at Underwood. This image is the completion of a journey we started last year with this image and this one. The ferry apparently passed under the railroad bridge to enter the Columbia.

I love the fact that with all that empty raw land back then, people still chose to build houses and float ’em on the river.

This is so interesting. It still looks much like this, except the area where the house boats are is filled with sand from the Condit breach.

Maybe had ferry landing here to get out of the wind and keep from pounding the ferry bottom on the outside beach in the swells.??

I think the north side railroad was completed about 1908. Do you think this home and ferry landing for Underwood, located on the White Salmon River was enclosed by the railroad?

Since we don’t see the actual ferry, maybe this was the home of the Underwood Ferry operator and the actual dock was along the river.
Looks like it might be flood stage.
