Here’s a reminder that Veteran’s Day is coming up on Monday. Originally called Armistice Day, it was a commemoration of the armistice which ended World War I. This parade up State Street was part of the Armistice Day celebrations in 1922 or 1923. The photographer was across the street from the library, looking east. Here’s a similar view today. Well, not exactly what it looks like today, since this area is right in the middle of a major urban renewal project which will change this view yet again.
You may recognize the Knights of Pythias Hall at 4th and State. The Stewart Bros building now houses Discover Bicycles.

My grandfather was stationed in France and was involved in the formation of the present day VFW. And I think they have a present free breakfast on Monday for all veterans. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know such celebrations only as a memory.

When a country chooses to employ a professional military force it seems the populace is more willing to support near perpetual wars. Wait until we perfect robots to fight with our drones. Sad.

Sure a lot of leaves on the trees for this time of year, wonder if it’s really a 4th of July parade. Looks like it says Kelly Bros. on that building to me

Good points Jim– it was Kelly Bros at this time. Not sure when it was Stewart Bros.
The photo notes do say Armistice day but I think you are right about the leaves. We have another parade image from the same spot, same era, but marching down State Street with bare trees and looking much more like November in Hood River. Good thing I saved a "real" Veteran’s Day image for Monday.

Yes, too many leaves on the trees and NONE on the ground. And the shadows indicate a high sun. Hmmm
