Historic Hood River
Steamer Docking
1-21-2022

Notes
This Ella May Davidson image shows a steamer docking at Hood River. Though sternwheelers have a relatively shallow draft, the dock had to be moved seasonally so there would be enough water to navigate the Hood River delta. I suspect this was low water, since the dock appears to be at the north end of the delta. I’d like to see how they get that automobile off the lower deck.

Is this the Henderson?

No, it is not the Henderson. I think it might be the Bailey Gatzert.

My guess is the Bailey Gatzert, based on the shape of the pilot house, the shape of the stack (and the stripe) and the rigging. Zooming in it looks like two words on the bow, but I can't make it out for sure.
