Continuing our trip down recent memory lane, here’s Schlosser Machine when they were located at the east end of Oak Street. They’re up in the Heights now with a lot more space, but in 1990 they were very appropriately occupying the space we saw earlier as Cuddeford’s Blacksmith shop. In this view it looks virtually unchanged from its earlier days. It was remodeled shortly thereafter.

Cuddeford eventually sold to Unger and then it was Huitt and Engle before Schlosser.
Longshot
Schlosser Machine has certainly been a major plus to the Hood River area over the years. Willing to work on anything from a flower pot hanger for the wife to the heavy industrial equipment, all with a smile.

in the late 1940’s and early 50’s, I lived in the building to the left of this machine shop. But Charlott, I remember it spelled as Hewitt’s Machine Shop. I also remember that out back of the shop, they just threw all of their metal scrap and there was a very big pile of them.

Sometimes I wish I had a really old Hood River phone book to look up things like the name of the machine shop. I thought it was Houitts. Or at least it had an OU in the name.

Spent many a visit in this old shop as a youngster. Was always fascinated to watch them welding and grinding on the old wood floors. Amazed it never burnt down.

In the early 1970’s we needed a couple of new Irrigation gates made. Someone told us to just take the measurements into Schlossers and they would make us what we needed.
I took the measurements into that place in the photo and they made us what we needed. I thought of all the years my dad, as a farmer, would have given anything to have a place like that to go to.
Through the years, we have used Schlossers for the odds and ends projects.
