And here’s Andrew’s pizza as it was in 1993. I remember ending many days with a quick slice here when I couldn’t bring myself to cook.
They’re still running strong at the same location in the Dewitt Motors building on Oak Street. They’ve remodeled several times and expanded westward into the rest of the building with a theater.

When I was a child this was Garrabrandt’s garage. I remember it so well, as you really had to be watching as you crossed in front for fear a vehicle would come driving out.

Isn’t that great, 23 years of Andrew’s Pizza. He and Melissa have done such a wonderful job serving up the public with great food and treats, and keeping the big Movie Company’s out of HRiver. Remember the mini-battle with the Century chain I believe. And the locals won that battle, if you could call it that?

Hmmmm, ….there are HHR of Dewitt Motors on Cascade around 1918. Any idea when Dewitt Motors moved to Oak St.? Just wondering why he would change locations.
I have the greatest respect for Pizza places who have endured through the years. It has been a come and go business for many.
The outside appearance of these buildings have definitely improved.

Andrew is a great contributor to the community with his support of groups who want to show their own specialty movies, as well as an annual tribute to a late great fisherman of the community.

Here’s text from the Oregon Inventory of Historic Properties: The 100′ x 100′ building was constructed by Harry DeWitt, an auto dealer, as the Mount Hood Motor Company in 1919. The 1928 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map indicates that a grocery store was located on the eastern portion of the building, a depot in the middle, and a garage in the rear of the building. The building served as the Greyhound Bus Depot in the 1930’s. It was subsequently purchased by Vernon Garrabrant and converted it into a car agency-garage. The east end of the building was occupied by Safeway from 1937 to 1946. The building was extensively burned in 1947 and then rebuilt by Garrabrant. Later it was used as a print shop by Luhr Jensen and Sons and then remodeled into a a mall in 1979.

I would like an address for the Safeway that occupied the above building 1937-1946. 1946 must be when Safeway built the store down toward the depot that is now a pizza parlor.

At one time my friend, Marilyn Stanley had a jewelry store at that location. There was also a small appliance repair shop, I think it was called Jim’s, located nearby.
