Historic Hood River
Near Little Jack Falls, Lower Columbia River Highway
7-16-2021

Notes
It’s easy to forget the Columbia River Highway also extended from Portland to Astoria. The caption page described this as “Prescott Point,” midway between Portland and Astoria. Of course Little Jack Falls still exists, but Highway 30 has been rerouted off the hillside in this area and no longer provides access… unless you know where to look. This blog post describes what has happened to the Lower Columbia River Highway at the site of Jack Falls and Little Jack Falls.

Excellent linked blog post. Thanks, Arthur!

Thanks for the great blog. Growing up at the west end of the Gorge, I knew about the town of Rainier but had never heard of Goble until a few years ago I met a gentleman who had grown up there.
The farms in the Beaverton, Hillsboro area had problems finding a way to get their produce down to the Columbia River for shipment. There are little winding roads coming down these hillsides to Highway 30 used by early wagons and cars.

L.E. some of us train nuts (historians) know Goble quite well as the NP railroad ferry port on the Columbia from Kalama before the railroad bridge was built. On July 24th the Port of Kalama will be celebrating their 100+1 anniversary with functions at the Port office. Lots of history……..
