ok, I’ll bite first, I realize this could be about anywhere, but if it is Alva Day, and in th Valley, my guess would be around the Wheeler, 281, Old Trunk, Summit flats and fields looking northerly? How do ya s’pose they transported the A frame? a little trailer?

The car in front must have been doing something with a rope. Looks like the gentleman is winding it up from underneath the car.

On close examination I’m not sure the lineman is being hosted by the "cherry picker". It appears to me that there is a chain hanging from the hook that may have been used to host the pole. I think the lineman climbed the pole the regular way with irons on his legs. A great photo.

Thanks for the photo. It gives me a better feel for my grandfather’s lineman job in the Hood River Valley for PP&L.

Arlen may be right. We have several other frames before this, in which a choke chain is used to hoist the pole upright. I think the lineman has just climbed the pole to unwrap the chain.
We have frames showing the pole being towed behind the car or truck with a set of wheels, but I don’t see any showing how the A-frame was stowed for travel.

The location looks like it is west of Dittbenners (sic) Corner, or what is now The Old Trunk I believe, the area was an open field from the corner until the railroad track crossing during the time I was growing up.

I can verify the location– that’s my grandfather’s (GW Kollas) house down there between the two tall trees.
