Guler Hotel was owned and operated by Christian and Pilomena ( Hammel) Guler. Both of them had been born in Switzerland. Christian’s father had owned a hotel in the Alps, so he had the back ground when he bought the place which had served as an inn prior.
He actually went up to what was known as Bear Creek and homesteaded before he married and went up to stay.
Eventually they opened up an auto camp. Not knowing a date on this photo that might be a portion of the auto camp where the tents are.
Guler was the first post master of Trout Lake.

Guler actually first settled in Bear Valley. As you zip up highway 141 in your car to Trout Lake, along the west side of the White Salmon River, it is hard to imagine that travel into Trout Lake was very difficult. The first settlers traveled north from the Gilmer Valley along the east side of the White Salmon River. This route took them into Bear Valley. The area is still known for bears.
Continuing north, you eventually arrive at the Trout Lake Valley, which is made up of lava rock and not very productive without irrigation.

I am a decedent of Peter Stoller. I understand the Peter Stoller sold to Christian Guler the land where he built his hotel. The land was the site of Peter Stoller’s homestead. I was wondering if there is a way to find out the location of the land that Peter sold to Christian?

Christian Guler was not the first postmaster of Trout lake as stated above. Charles Pearson was the first postmaster of Trout Lake. He was appointed 8/10/1887. Christian Guler was appointer the first postmaser of Guler 5/22/1903. Mail to Guler was discontinued 6/30/1926 and sent to Trout Lake.
