Historic Hood River
Campfire Girls
7-7-2011

Notes
Continuing with this week’s theme, summertime is the time for campfires. A campfire can keep you warm against the brisk mountain air or chase away the mosquitoes, but its most important role is for roasting the marshmallows. Marshmallows supposedly date back to ancient Egypt, so this photo circa 1915 is a relatively recent example.

I love it!!
Can you imagine what a treat marshmallows were? I bet if they would have had Hershey Bars, their spotless white dresses would not be so spotless.
I can’t tell by the background if they are right along the river or looking down on the river.
Up on the bluff looking down I guess?

Now I can see the background more clearly. They must be east of Hood River. The background looks like the drier Klickitat hills.
