Historic Hood River
E.R. Bradley Stationery

I could swear I’ve posted this before but I can’t find it. Maybe I used it in a lecture. This is the exterior of E.R. Bradley’s stationery store and print shop which I believe was on Oak Street between 2nd and 3rd at the time. This would be between 1899 when he published The Hood River Sun and 1905 when he started The Hood River Newsletter.
I can make out a few of the publications in the window. Besides a nice portrait of Abraham Lincoln, there is a book on the Galveston Flood, two monthlies (“Harpers” and “The Ledger”), “Ladies Home Journal”, a book on the 19th Century, and a periodical called “Truth”.
There are also several mounted photographs. This photo is on card stock imprinted “L. Bradley” so perhaps he had a relative who was a photographer.
Bradley was also an agent for The Oregonian and The Evening Telegram from Portland, which I presume arrived by steamer or rail.

The Galveston Flood was a big news event. Looking through old The Dalles newspapers, they covered the flood for days.
