Here’s a letter from C.M. Wolfard of White Salmon to the Hood River city recorder requesting a loan of the city’s records. Wolfard was the first mayor of Hood River in 1895. By 1907 he had a successful business in White Salmon and was working to organize the White Salmon city government.
If the records were loaned to Wolfard as requested, he returned them as promised. I have consulted them on several occasions at city hall, where they are under the care of our current city recorder.
Wolfard went on to be the first mayor of White Salmon.

He was in White Salmon from1880 – 1895 because the post office was housed inhis store there. It had been down on the river at what was called Bingen Landing at the time.Once it was located in his store in
White Salmon people from down below had to walk up the hill to get their mail.

In government business, is the expression, "fraternally yours", every used any more?

LE, when I saw "fraternally yours" I wondered if they belonged to some fraternal organization like IOOF.

I like the stationery………ten years and out….and the use of a date stamp as a "time saver?" I am still surprised whenever I see "OR" for Oregon in old documents as I thought that usage came with the zip code.
