Notes
This is the E.O. Blanchar home at 9th and Oak in 1916. Not much has changed, except for landscaping. Blanchar served as Hood River mayor in 1912.

I have always wondered who built and owned the Victorian house across the street from this one? Does anyone know?

His name was Edward Oliver Blanchar, originally from Wisconsin. He had two wives. First was named Lucy Edna. His second wife was Anna Ellen McDonald. She was born in Biggs, the daughter of Dixon McDonald. She was the same age as my great-aunt Gladys Clark (that we saw a few photos back) and they grew up as playmates and good friends. As it turned out both the McDonald family and the Clark family moved to Hood River. After Blanchar died she married Forrest Moe.

Before and after photos are fantastic, especially when taken in Hood River. I like towns where hillside homes have river views, Astoria, Kalama, Hood River, with HR being by far the one I admire the most.

Arthur, can you add banking photo #284 to the tag for Blanchar.
The outside appearance hasn’t changed much except for the little upstairs porch. I suppose Sally Donovan or someone knows who built many of the well constructed HR homes? It would be interesting to know if one person (Stranahan?) was responsible for the beauty.

Appears to be the same tree at the front corner that I assume is an oak.

This was my family home from 1962-1977. My parents, the Nafsingers, bought it from the Deans (I don’t know which Dean). I believe it was built in 1913.
