What’s For Lunch?

Large format glass negatives contain an enormous amount of detail, but sometimes it’s not quite enough. Here we’re zoomed in to view less than 1% of the original plate. I’ve been working a few days to read the detail of this signboard at the county fair, circa 1900. Unfortunately the edge of the negatives always suffers more wear, and the old camera lenses were most distorted at the fringes. What’s your guess?

My guess, and only a guess is that one word is Sandwich. the bottom word might be Apple, such as maybe they would have had apple pie, because up until the great freeze Hood River was known for its apples instead of pears. That word above might even be Gravenstein, because Gravenstein would be the pie apple of choice.

Will you be posting the entire image as well? Fair is coming up at the end of this month and it’s always interesting to see pictures from past years.

At first I thought the word under lunch, might be Coho, as in salmon, but that last letter isn’t an o.

I think the second word is "coho", as in the fish. The sign might say,
