Historic Hood River
“What-Not-Shop”

Notes
The “What-Not-Shop” sold sewing supplies in “Uptown” Hood River (The Heights) in the 1950s. It’s location at 1114 12th Street is the longtime location of Weatherly Printing.
The Hood River Saddle club is still around at the same location at Belmont and Country Club Road. I have never seen that many horses at an event, but the grounds haven’t changed much.

That Saddle Club photo is certainly no longer the Hood River scene.

A few years ago I bought a sewing machine on 12th St. on the Heights, but it wasn’t from this store.

During the 1950’s the What Not Shop was owned by W. O. Livingston whose daughter, Lois Talbot, taught many piano students in a tiny building in the alley that runs between 12th and 13th but I think it was one block south of the store. In Lois’ obituary, https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/31769201/lois-deloria-talbot, it appears that she probably inherited the shop. After Lois stopped teaching she took up painting. Some of her paintings are currently on exhibit at the History Museum.
