I’m always looking for good bronze statues. This period postcard shows the memorial to Umatilla County Sheriff Tillman Taylor in Pendleton, Oregon. Sheriff Taylor was killed in a prison break when five men attempted to escape his custody with a smuggled a gun. The five prisoners were recaptured, with two sentenced to life in prison and the other three hung. This site dedicated to equestrian statues gives some of the particulars of this fine bronze. This statue is just one of many on Pendleton’s “Bronze Trail“.
Speaking of fine bronzes, have you seen the statue of “Seaman”, Meriwether Lewis’s Newfoundland dog, at the Cascade Locks Marine Park?

I knew about Til Taylor. There is a book, “The Murder of Til Taylor: A Great Western Sheriff”, but I did not know about Pendleton’s Bronze Trail. I guess I have been living under a rock.
Washougal also has a bronze statue of Seaman.

I think the Washougal statue is the same as the Cascade Locks one. They were made at the foundry in CL.
