The year is 1972, and Ty Taylor has been trying to find the pieces to the 1920 American LaFrance engine for a couple of years. They have enough together to make the trip to Portland and participate in the Rose Festival “Merrykhana Parade.” I’m not sure who this boy is, but I bet we’ll find out.
It took another 12 years to complete the restoration. Ty Taylor didn’t live to see it completed, but the Hood River Fire Station is named in his honor.

I met Ty in 1981 when my daughter was 7 years old and needed to go by ambulance to Dornbecker Hospital. He was the one in the back of the ambulance with us on the ride to Portland. What a great man! He put us at ease at a very scary time.

Ty Taylor and my Dad started a small import export business together in the early 1960’s, but it didn’t last long. They were good friends.
