Ready for some more Earl Conser photos? Here’s his view of the railroad work camp at Mosier in April 1901. I believe this is where the engineering crew that he was part of was housed. I believe the construction workers were housed elsewhere. From several views of this camp it wasn’t nearly big enough to house the number of men it took to build the rail alignment.
I suspect those cats were critical to keeping the rodent population at the camp under control.

I agree with the idea this was the engineering crew, construction workers normally moved with the work living in outfit cars (bunk cars with cooking) that traveled close to the work site and without families

Tremendous amount of detail. You can spend hours picking picking different points of interest.

I spy….. 4 people wearing glasses, 4 watch chains, a survey tripod, a grading rod? (The big ruler). A corral, lots of rope and two cats. I have decided the lady is holding a cat, not a rabbit.

My comment above on the work train cook car reminds me of the kitchen cars on troop trains, a real chore to cook and serve on a moving train. The army manual TM 10-412 had everything planned for 100 men so normally there was much adjusting.
