Notes
This terrible accident occurred between two freight trains on the Southern Pacific Railroad near Roseburg in November 1900. It made enough of an impression on Earl Conser that be included 3 views of it in his album.The coroner’s inquest suggested the cause of the accident was that one of the conductors mistook Thursday for Wednesday, so he was expecting a clear track all the way to Roseburg.

Unfortunately, Kenn, there was no warning of the impending collision. I believe it was very foggy, and they weren’t expecting any other trains on the rail.
