I guess if you’re selling typefaces to newspapers you need to show them off. This was published in The Hood River Glacier in 1894.
Palmer and Rey had a wide range of products. They also advertised gas motors.

I find this ad interesting as I am now reading the newspapers between 1854 and well after the Civil War in the one area of New York state one of my family lines resided in. Makes it more interesting as for a 5 year period one of my family was the owner of that paper. I have seen ads somewhat similiar to this advertising such out of New York City. I agree that some of these old companies dealt in a variety of things that have basically no association with other things they offer.
In reading these old papers what always is so interesting is the medical remedies, or supposed cure alls. I guess alcohol can cure or at least make things tolerable?

I assume Cor. stands for Corner.
Surprised at the use of OR for Oregon. I thought Ore was used back then.

L.E. I also thought OR came to us via the zip code as I thought Ore.,& Oreg. were the historic abbreviations…but have a rail map at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center of Portland from 1912 that uses it.
and speaking of type, saw a special about Chinese printing and they used carved wood blocks instead of metal type…..seems they have tooooo many characters. this is a classic example of those "good old days" weren’t all that good…I love getting off the manual typewriting!!!!

Maybe they ran out of "E"s?
