Historic Hood River
Eliot Glacier

Notes
This view of a crevasse on Eliot Glacier is from a 1905 stereo card. It looks like the climber agreed to edge close to the edge, but no closer than one alpenstock length.
Eliot Glacier was named for part time Hood River resident Thomas Lamb Eliot. This stereo card spells it “Elliot Glacier.”

That makes my stomach lurch. I really want to reach out and pull him back. Too many cracks right in his vicinity.

Eliot – one "L" same as its namesake Thomas Lamb Eliot of Shushula fame. Also Reed College, Forest Park, Portland Art Museum and that city’s library system, etc.

Interesting dilemma– the card is printed "Elliot Glacier" but "Oregon Geographic Place Names" verifies it is named after T. L. Eliot. I’ll clean it up somehow.
