Historic Hood River
Early Parkdale
8-28-2017

Notes
This early view of Parkdale captures the construction of McIsaac’s store. We’re looking west down Baseline Road. Ruth Guppy has noted their is a locomotive visible (just to the left of Baseline) so it must be after May 10, 1910. I’ll trust she did her research.

I know ground has been cleared, but I wonder if there was a natural meadow here.

I love this shot of McIsaac’s store being constructed- My grandfather, Eric Gordon, was the 3rd Gordon brother to come from NY to Parkdale in 1910-12.
His older brothers, Jack and James arrived before him in 1908. Eric purchased land from James after WWI in 1919- James returned east. Jack stayed and raised a family til 1934. Their family home was where Mike McCarthy lives now on Clear Cr Rd. Other properties they owned were on MacIntosh Dr and at 8675 Cooper Spur (Benjamin/Rice now).
Eric sold the MacIntosh property and in 1926-7 built a house "in town" at what is now 4878 Van Nuys Dr.-east of the tennis courts and the Elementary school (former Parkdale HS built in 1937.)
