Actually there was an actual class of library. You learned the library numbering system of how the books were placed, and other things in connection to the operation of a library. You also helped replacing books in their proper place after they returned from check out. etc. It was all very interesting for someone interest in reading and writing.

I graduated in the late 1960’s and we still checked out books with this method, and as Charlott says, we had a class on the Dewey Decimal System and we had to put books back in their proper place.

In answer to Nels, NO, libraries with physical books are in fact thriving! I know because I work at one…and my sore muscles and joints prove that massive numbers of books go in and out all day long! No worries.
