Notes
In the days before the Columbia River Highway all traveler services clustered around the Oregon Rail and Navigation Company’s depot at Hood River. This classic Benjamin Gifford view shows a steam powered locomotive at the old OR&N depot, prior to the construction of a new depot in 1911. The Mt. Hood Railroad depot (constructed about 1906) is in the foreground, partially blocking our view of the Mt. Hood Hotel (showing the cupola from the renovation about 1904). You can see the Gerdes Hotel, and just out of view was the Hotel Oregon.
This image is from the Hood River Commercial Club commissioned album we’ve dated to about 1910.

This is a great photo with wonderful detail. The architecture of the buildings and craftsmanship is beautiful!

I would usually say something about that lovely steam engine.
However that building on the left has so much architectural detail to enjoy. And all in just a utility type building. Would like to see the two giant wood or coal stoves inside.

Wow, Arthur! Two days in a row, you have posted pictures of places where I lived. In the period of 1945 to 1952, I lived in the Downing Building (formerly the Yasui Building) at First and Oak Streets. I considered the area shown in this picture to be part of my backyard.
