Bring History into the Classroom with a Traveling Trunk!
The Japanese American Museum of Oregon along with the History Museum of Hood River County presents Traveling Trunks!
Traveling trunks are designed to bring reproduction primary source artifacts, images, and documents into the classroom to enrich learning. They can be checked out by schools and other educational institutions for up to 3 weeks at a time.
Trunk Theme: Japanese American History in Oregon
Grades 3-5
This traveling trunk supports students in understanding the history of Japanese Americans in Oregon from the early 1900s up to the present day through six hands-on, interactive lessons. Students will analyze images and objects, read biographies, and examine strategies of resistance in order to better understand the lives and experiences of Oregon’s Japanese Americans. Background information is provided for educators in each lesson. This unit aligns with the 2018 and 2024 Oregon Social Science Standards.
