When Watermelons Had Seeds
5-7-2021

Notes
When did watermelons stop having seeds? I remember that being half the fun.
What a great portrait of Thurston Laraway sitting on a crate. The crate also has a story to tell. It originally housed 24 pair of women’s rubbers (overshoes) from the Goodyear Rubber “Tempest” product line, specifically the “Opera” model. You can see them in the Sears Catalog below.

I didn’t realize that jeggings were a thing back then…

Could his shoes be on the wrong feet?

Great picture. I’ve always wondered about those high lace up shoes/boots that were the fashion in the day – must have taken forever to get them laced up in the morning. Or maybe they slept with them on, to save time. The story of the wood crate is interesting. Can you imagine today if all of our "stuff" from Amazon came in wood crates like this? We would be all set for firewood.

Great Friday Smile photo!
But those shoes look agonizing. I don’t think it would matter what foot they were on. And my mother would have sent this little guy straight back to his room to change. You never combined polka dots with plaid.
I think the bow tie was to wipe the juice from his face.
I wonder if the melon is local or Hermiston?
